Peel back the FILM, Find a Better Way Forward

I transitioned from a 38-year corporate career to focus on my entrepreneurial journey a year ago.

Two years prior to that day, my mentor strongly encouraged me to invest in a program he had been involved with for over 20 years, Strategic Coach. I made that investment, and it has not only taught me strategies and tools to help me “compress the decades into days” I teach but 2x my business en route to 10xing it.

This is why all the best leaders, entrepreneurs, athletes, etc, have mentors and coaches. They see the potential you have before you see it in yourself.

My team and I have implemented many of the strategies and tools I have learned over the past three years, but I believe what has helped us grow more than the tools is meeting, speaking, and working with other entrepreneurs who have gone on their entrepreneurial journey and have succeeded.

I made the promise to my mentor before he passed away in 1997, to ” not let it die with me.” The “it” is all the things he taught me through our talks, his notes, and the successful people, he introduced me to.

As I plan my next book, I am going back through these learnings for a central theme. What I am realizing is pretty much everything he and my other mentors taught me was about showing people how to have

A better way forward.

As I look back through my corporate and entrepreneurial journey, I believe this subliminally has been what has driven me.

I was on a podcast interview earlier this week, and it was focused on what skills I used to become a top producer.

I shared about what I wrote in my blog Adopt the Mindset of Being a Comprehensivist, and the ability to help my clients “connect the dots” and how to do that.

I went deep on my current blog, You don’t have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren’t. I delved into mindset. I believe you to be outstanding in any facet of your life, you need to be consistent, determined, and willing to work for it.

Then, I shared something that I did in the latter part of my corporate career, and now, I focus on when I coach and work with businesses and people. I didn’t have a term for it until I read my fellow Strategic Coach entrepreneur Chad Jenkins’s book, “Just Add a Zero.”

Chad shares in his book about what he did to build his multi-million dollar business.

He looks for the friction in a potential client’s business and then solves it.

As I read and listened to his book, I thought back to when I had the most success in all of my sales career. It was when I could identify my potential client’s friction and give them a solution that either saved them money or helped drive revenue so they had a better way forward.

If you want to be different from your competition and stand out in the marketplace, consider what Chad calls.

A FILM‘er- Friction Identifior Leveraging the Market.

Learn how to peel back the film. We have all done with a piece of technology. We get a new mobile device that has film on it. We are excited when we get it, and oops, we drop it and see a scratch. But then you peel back the film and notice it is still scratchless.

Peel back the film for your clients. Become a FILM’er.

If you can focus on identifying the friction an executive is having in his company, you have leverage and will stand out in the market. Ask questions to identify what is the bottleneck or friction. Is it supply chain issues? Personnel? Accounts Receivable? Identify the value eliminating this bottleneck or friction would mean to the executive.

The same goes for coaches and mentors. The best can identify the friction in their client quickly then start to address them for a better way forward.

These are the questions I use when I coach to identify their friction so I can help my clients get their outcomes, not in decades but days.

  1. What’s most important to your business right now?
  2. What has to happen for you to accomplish that?

Once I know the answer to these two questions, I then know their friction lies in one of six areas. I then identify which area their answer falls into and I know how I am going to leverage that area to help reduce or eliminate their friction.

Start peeling back the film for your clients and you will quickly stand out in the marketplace.

From 1983 to the present, I see a pattern with all my mentors and coaches. They all were and are FILM’ers, which may be the theme for my next book.

They are masters in identifying the friction I had or have in my business and life and helped me begin

Having a better way forward.

When you help others embrace their uncertainty, you will ignite opportunity for them and you will revolutionize their life.

Help your clients trade their limiting beliefs by identifying their friction. Peel back their film and you will begin to help them have a better way forward,

Creating their own flight plan for their life.
