Together with BENNO BAKSTEEN, Chairman of the Dutch Expert Group Aviation and former Pilot at the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines ,we will take you on a journey on Personal Leadership and Overcoming a Crisis. Let’s go and Fly again!
Dave Sanderson is the Last passenger who left the airplane that crashed on the Hudson river in New York on January 15, 2009. After his experience of being The Last Passenger of the “Miracle on the Hudson”, people ask him how to employ their Personal Leadership skills to find what their Distinct Advantage is. What they are uniquely gifted at and most passionate about which wil be their Point In Time That Changes Everything [their PITTChE]. And right now it’s about employing your personal leadership to get certainty in these uncertain times.
When US Airways Flight 1549, or “The Miracle on the Hudson” ditched into the Hudson River on January 15, 2009, Dave Sanderson knew he was exactly where he was supposed to be. The last passenger off the back of the plane on that fateful day, he was largely responsible for the well-being and safety of others, risking his own life in frigid water to help other passengers off the plane. Despite the hazard to himself, Sanderson thought only of helping others and emerged from the wreckage with a mission: to encourage others to do the right thing. In this stirring presentation, Sanderson shares the story of Flight 1549, revealing the inner strength it took to make it through the day, and how teamwork, leadership, and state management can help overcome any obstacle.
Flight US1549 could have easily ended in a disaster, so the actual outcome is a great demonstration of what it is that creates the extremely high level of safety in aviation. A no-risk life is impossible to live, so acceptance of a minimal amount of risk is unavoidable for any activity. When that risk becomes a reality, it is the resilience of the human that can save the day. That often means quick analysis, thinking outside protocols and snap decisions, based on knowledge and skills. All of this was on full display with the Miracle on the Hudson.
